Haydn Thomas: a return to my roots
I left Richard Lander School in Truro at 16 in the 1970s. There were no jobs around. And no money. I needed to learn a skill fast and asked a carpenter for a job. His answer was: "There`s no money to pay you, boy". I said can work for free if you give me lunch. Eight months later we had refurbished a whole house - everything from the roof to the windows. That was my apprenticeship.
At 21 I left Cornwall to find work in London in the double-glazing industry and worked for other people for 10 years. Frustrated with the push to rush every job, I set up my own business, allowing time to give every job the attention my customers deserved. My first work came from a friend of a friend for one window. That one window started a successful 25-year business. No advertising was needed, as all my work came from recommendations.
Now returning to Cornwall where my work life started, I want to share my expertise in providing excellent service and products.
